Advanced Photonics Technologies in Sensing, Communication and Instrumentation

Photonics has been the driving force behind many technological advancements since the invention of laser source. The recent progress in nanotechnology and nano-photonics have given further push in the development of high end photonics technologies in sensing, communication, instrumentations and almost in all domains of research and developments. Photonics instruments are becoming indispensable in space mission, sea floor exploration, earth exploration, warfare, healthcare and many other daily life activities.

CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation is well known for its research activities in the domain of optics and photonics. The department of ‘Advanced Materials and Sensors (Photonics)’ is dedicatedly working in the area of photonics instrumentations. The activities focus on the state-of-the-art to complete solution for major scientific, industrial and health care problems. The areas of research range from photonic crystal fiber, fiber lasers, fiber optic sensors (surface plasmon, evanescent wave, fluorescence, interferometer), fiber Bragg grating, accelerometer, hydrophone, optical beam shaping and imaging, nanoantenna, nano optical tweezer etc.

The workshop organised as part of Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Institute will bring together eminent speakers to address the recent progress in the photonic technologies. It will also organise hands-on training on the research activities of the scientists in the department.
